I was recently at Sur La Table and came upon these adorable salt and pepper shakers. Many years ago, when my Great Grandma Lorraine passed away, I inherited a pair of mouse salt and pepper shakers from her. She had a thing for mice. I'm not sure where it all started for her, but eventually, she amassed quite a collection of mice in various forms.
Keeping mice in the kitchen seems counterintuitive, but those sweet grey, ceramic shakers, were very dear to me. Eventually, they became chipped and damaged from use, and I had to give them up. And now, pigs.....
I'm not sure why I feel compelled to collect pigs now. Maybe these things happen when you get older. I should be clear that I don't want to receive pigs for every gift from here on out. All you family and friends, please don't start gifting me pig slippers, sweaters, and other swine paraphinalia. I have no interest in wearing a pig pendant on my neck, or hanging a pig poster in my kitchen.
I just liked the look of these two, Poivre and Sel. They absolutely needed to come home with me. I may bring other piggy friends home with me down the line, but I'll know them when I see them.
