With clouds, fog, high winds, and generally poor weather, its been difficult to get in the spirit of summer. If you find you're having trouble too, there are a few essential products that will have you feeling fit for the beach, or lounging poolside in no time. The wonderful thing about this time of year, less is more. Meaning you can get away without the heavy make-up and prep. Checkout my top must have products. None of which cost more then $12.00 at your local drugstore. A small price to pay for a slice of Summer.
Before using a self-tanner, exfoliate your skin in the shower, using a body scrub of your choice. If you don't have a good scrub, then a wash cloth or loofah will work as well. The main goal is to remove dry skin, for a more even application and color from the self-tanner. If self-tanning lotion seems too extreme, a moisturizer that adds a subtle glow, over several applications, is the way to go. When applying self-tanner, baby wipes come in handy to remove excess product. Adding a dab of your regular body lotion with the tanning product, can help minimize the intensity of color.
To bronze it up even more, sweep a touch of powder or creme bronzer on your cheeks, along your nose, and temples. Anywhere you want to appear sun-kissed. This L'Oreal Glam Bronze is one of the better bronzers I've found, and there a number of shades to choose from to enhance your skin tone.
It seems every season, nails and toes are getting their own treatment, with colors specifically designed for the time of year. Since they are usually trendy colors, and less likely to stick around come Fall, save your money and buy the drugstore brand. I've fallen prey to purchasing a $20.00 bottle of polish from some designer brand. You wear the color a few times during the season and its done. Especially, the new blue and green hues out now. You should really try this trend out though. Its playful and makes you feel young. My suggestion, is to go neutral on your fingers, and try wearing the blue or green on your toes. Sally Hansen, Xtreme Wear is about $3.00 a bottle, which is all you need to spend to get the look.
Aside from a touch of color on your lips, and cute sandals, the only other summer must-have is sun protection. I found Nivea's, A Kiss Of Protection for lips is a nice, new find. Apply on its own, or swipe your favorite lip color over it. There are so many SPF lotions out there, and many guidelines as to what level of SPF people should be using. A couple helpful hints, look for products no less then SPF 30, and make sure the product you choose protects against UVA and UVB rays. Don't forget to reapply during the day, including your face and ears.
Happy Summer everyone!
